Ghost Hunts at Bannockburn House with Paranormal Eye UK
Bannockburn House is a 17th Century A-listed mansion house, which has survived essentially unchanged, apart from an added Victorian extension. The original part of the house was completed around 1675 by Sir Hugh Paterson, although it is believed it may have been built on an earlier building called Drummonds’ Hall. Set in rather eerie and secluded woodland, this large Grade A listed house is a reputed haunted house, and this is the perfect place for an overnight ghost hunt; this haunted house has many rooms for ghost hunters to investigate. There have been numerous reports of a female apparition seen around the balcony area; the sound of footsteps are often heard walking down the dark long, endless corridors. Ghost Hunts here at Bannockburn House have been known to leave people feeling petrified, as they have experienced the overwhelming feeling of being grabbed and feeling completely uneasy. Doors have been heard opening and closing by unseen hands. Join the Paranormal Eye Team as we invite you to become a real ghost hunter for the night and join us for a ghost hunt at this haunted house. Face your fears as we aim to unlock the past and uncover the house’s secrets on this Bannock House Ghost hunt.
History Of Bannockburn House
History Of Bannockburn House
Sir Robert Drummond was granted the Barony of Bannockburn in 1567 by Mary Queen of Scots and his grandson-built Drummonds’ Hall. The lands of Bannockburn then came into the hands of the Rollo family in 1636, with King Charles II granting the Baronetcy to Sir Andrew Rollo in 1651. Sir Andrew Rollo had supported Charles I during the English Civil war.
Sir Hugh Paterson, I purchased the lands in 1672, and the house was completed around 1675. Described by a specialist as a “rare survivor” of its time and it has many interesting architectural features, including the “Laigh Hall” and the “Blue Room” ceilings reputed to be the work of Hulbert and Dunsterfield; two highly skilled craftsmen who Charles II had commissioned to produce ornate ceilings within Holyrood Palace.
IN 1746, before the Battle of Culloden, Hugh Paterson 2nd Baronet entertained Charles Edward Stuart in Bannockburn House, where he met the Baronet's niece, Clementina Walkinshaw. She would later become his lover and mother of his child. When the house passed to the 2nd Baronet's daughter, Mary, in 1787, she sold the property to William Ramsey of Barnton and Sauchie. The house stayed in the Ramsey Family until Sir James Ramsey Gibson-Maitland sold it to Alexander Wilson in 1883. Alexander was a member of the famous Bannockburn weaving family of Wilson. Alexander made many additions and changes to the house, including a new porch entrance and extension to the library and office. Above the main doorway, a recess to accommodate a coat of arms that is now empty.
In 1910 Bannockburn House was sold to the Sheriff Substitute of Stirling at James Mitchell. In 1962 Mitchell's daughter sold the house after living in it for 32 years. She sold the house to the multi-property-owning millionaire A.E Pickard. Peter Drake formerly owned the house. It was placed on the market for sale in February 2016. A local charitable Community Trust was formed to try and purchase the house for the community and the people of Scotland. They aim to safeguard the property for future generations. It was announced in April 2017 that the Trust had secured an exclusive right to buy the property and were actively fundraising to raise the required funds. This was achieved in November 2017 with a mixture of public money and grants.
