Merley House Ghost Hunts With Paranormal Eye UK
Join the paranormal eye team as we invite you to be part of a ghost hunt at the spooky location of Merley House. Many passers-by have witnessed ghostly apparitions of a woman looking out the upper front window in this lonely and isolated building. Ghost hunts here have guests feeling petrified and refusing to enter some rooms. By daylight, this building gives you a feeling of being uneasy; however, the building has a rather sinister feel by night. Ghostly dark shadows drastic, sudden temperature changes have reported the feeling of being watched, and some visitors have even said being grabbed. Are you ready and brave enough to be part of this ghost hunt at the old haunted house?
With a history of being a family home, being requisitioned by the War Office, and its past links to the slave trade, it is not surprising that staff at the House regularly report Ghostly Encounters and visitors to the house report seeing mysterious figures who walk through walls!
Can you hold your nerve when the lights go out on this paranormal event to see who is haunting Merley House?
History Of Merley House
History Of Merley House
Merley House in Wimborne, Dorset, was built in 1756. Merley (originally spelt Myrle) was an ancient manor belonging to the Lords of Canford. In 1751, Ralph Willett purchased the estate and built the more significant and much grander house we see today.
A walled garden was built to the North East of the house with an Orangery on the south side. This has survived to this day and used to be known as the Merley Bird Gardens, home to many exotic bird species. It is now the Orangery Suite.
In 1875 the whole estate was sold by auction, but there is little information about whom it was sold until it was bought by Ivor Guest, 1st Lord of Wimborne. In 1927, the MP for South Dorset, Angus Valdemar Hambro, purchased the estate in a dilapidated condition, spending two years renovating it.
In 1939 the outbreak of war meant that the War Office requisitioned the house. When they left in 1946, the house was again sold at auction. Now down to just 270 acres, it was sold in 14 lots, and the place was converted into flats.
During the 1960s, the present owners started a holiday park to help finance the house’s restoration. The ground floor was opened to the public and contained a collection of model cars, lorries, aeroplanes, ships and train sets. Most recently, the downstairs was restored to create spacious and elegant areas.
