There have been numerous reports of heavy footsteps walking across the floors when nobody is present, and strange mists and swirls of lights have been in the main hall on previous ghost hunts. The Castle is known to be haunted by a small child who, at times, is highly mischievous. Visitors have reported black monk-like shapes and figures wandering through the many secret rooms within the Castle. Are you ready? Join the team at this eerie and chilling castle with a gruesome past! Spend the night after dark as we unlock the keep for your night’s ghost hunting event. 

The Castle’s Keep in Newcastle is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument dating back to 1172; the Castle is built on the site of the earlier Castle, which gave the city its name. During the 16th to 18th Century, the Keep was used as a prison until the building came into disrepair. The Keep was restored in the early 19th Century, and by the 1850s, much of the surrounding area was altered to allow the arrival of the railway system, constructed through the grounds of the Castle. The Keep and Gatehouse are the only surviving buildings from the original fortification.

The entrance leads via flights of stairs to the second floor and into the Great Hall, the largest room in the keep; the Black Gate was approached via a drawbridge across a moat. A wooden bridge has replaced the drawbridge. The original gate had a portcullis, and the recesses where this fit can still be seen. The Castle Keep and the Black Gate have recently been refurbished by the Heart of the City partnership and reopened on 21 March 2015 as Newcastle Castle. In addition to improved accessibility.

Your ghost hunt will allow you exclusive access to this unique location after dark. You will be put into small groups at the start of the evening to investigate and explore the King’s Chamber, Great Hall, Queens Chamber and ground-level Chapel, chamber/Dungeon. Will you experience the many strange and unexplained happenings that occur here? Can you face your fears as you enter this chilling Caste after dark?

Not suitable for pregnant ladies.

Anyone under or suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances will not be permitted.

This is an old and dark location, all attendees must bring a torch with them.

All attendees are expected to wear sensible shoes no heels or sandals etc.

We advise that you wear warm clothing, as this locations can be very cold after dark (even during the summer months)

This location is not suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues.

There is NO onsite parking at this location. Please Note Street Parking can be difficult.

Hi, I would just like to say a big thank you for your hospitality at the castle keep on Saturday night. It was most certainly a memorable evening to say the least and really enjoyable! Also just like to point out that after further investigating the personal messages from the reading, me and my sister we’re unsure of various messages put to us upon the night. After asking family members for further guidance, they were all absolutely spot on! 👍 so spooky 🤣I will look out for your next event at the castle keep with much excitement and anticipation!!!!! 😁 Thanks again!!
