Graisley Old Hall (Known as the house that cries ) Wolverhampton Ghost Hunt

Graisley Hall Ghost Hunts With Paranormal Eye UK

The old former hall gained its name as the house that cries back in the 1980s by a Midlands Newspaper; This was because strange, mysterious pools of water would appear in this old hall with no logical explanation. This old haunted house has been on the receiving end of whispers, moans, and groans for many years. On many occasions, the owners who reside on the opposite end of the hall have experienced poltergeist activity. Heavy footsteps have been heard here, along with many guests seeing an apparition of what appears to be a boy by the fireplace in the main sitting room. Door handles have been seen turning and moving by unforeseen hands; doors heard banging or rattling. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone? Join the team as we invite you to be part of this unique ghost hunting night.

History Of The House That Cries

Graisley Old Hall is believed to have been built in 1485, though signs of a much earlier building have been discovered. During road construction, the remains of a moat were found surrounding the property. This is thought to have been there to prevent cattle thieves.

16th Century records show that the first owner of Graiseley Old Hall was Nicholas Rydley, a merchant of the staple of Calais. The Hall remained within his family until the middle of the 17th Century when Walter Rotten was forced to sell the property to William Norman to pay off gambling debts.

During the Queen Anne period, the exterior timberwork of the Hall was replaced with brick. An example of the original Wattle and Daub structuring can be viewed in the house’s Entrance Hall. Also, sections of medieval fresco paintings can be seen on the actual wall timbers of the home.

Towards the end of the 19th Century, Moses Ironmonger occupied the hall, a former Mayor of the Borough and a friend of Alexander Graham Bell. Ironmonger installed the first public telephone line used in the district.

In 1930 Graisley Old Hall was purchased by the Royal Wolverhampton School as an administration site. It was discovered in 1957 that this old Hall was not an officially listed building. Wolverhampton M.P. Enoch Powell brought the matter to the attention of the local Government, and as a result, Graisley Old Hall was given Grade II listed status.
